Industrial Jive - Song & Arrangement Notes

This is the first song I composed for C6 pedal steel, back in about 2000 – a jazz swing thing. The title “Industrial Jive” refers to Industrial Drive a significant street in Newcastle NSW, that was used by thousands of workers (including many “New Australians”) to bicycle, car or bus to the BHP steel mills & associated industries 24/7.

The piece reflects the contrast between a relatively quiet road quickly changing to a torrent of workers at shift change times.

Especially dedicated to one of those workers, Ivan (Muscles) Horvat.

Industrial Jive - Song & Arrangement Notes Arrangement Notes This tablature is provided to support 8 string (GECAGECA) C6/Am7 tunings. (it can also be easily adapted to C6 Pedal steel – with top G) Industrial Jive is essentially a jazz piece in the key of A Major, the 4/4 tempo is 110 bpm (swing feel).

This piece emphasises using the 6th notes & highlights variations between 9th, 6th & Minor 7 voicings. It is based around frets 7 to 11. Skill level is intermediate – note that the 32-bar solo section is provided to improvise over – not particularly easy to make interesting over the A6 to G6 chords!
